Melbourne, Australia 2015: Great Ocean Road

18/1/2015

One of the day tours that I've booked was the Great Ocean Road tour. Can't say you've been to Melbourne if you've never visited the 12 Apostles and went on the Great Ocean Road trip.

The tour started with a gathering at the meetup place on Swanston St. right in front of the tour agency at 7.30am in the morning. x.x

It was chilly and the streets were quite empty. Right opposite the tour agency tho, there were still people having drinks in a bar and some of them leaving in taxi. Talk about partying all night long.

I was one of the first few to arrive at around 7am. So I just sat on one of the benches having my coffee and bread. People started arriving some 10 minutes later. It was a full bus and we left the place a little off schedule. Since I was one of the passengers who came alone, I ended up sitting next to the tour guide on the first row right behind the driver (driver side is on the right in Australia). I was thinking to myself "shit, I wanted to sit on the left window seat" coz that's where the view of the sea is. So yeah, if you want a view of the sea during the great ocean road trip, go for the seats on the left.

Turned out it wasn't a bad idea after all, coz I got the full front view (coz first row) and I got to have some chit chat with the tour guide. Got to know that he's from Brunei and he migrated to Australia since he was young. He explained stuff to me and kept saying that we should try everything once. If we liked it, then go for it a second time, if we don't like it, then treat it as an experience. If you can, travel the world and try everything once.

So anyway, we had alot to talk during the 4 hour trip to the 12 Apostle. There were a few toilet stops and a lunch break along the way.

After a while, the road started to get windy and people started throwing up. Luckily I had a light breakfast and I felt okay throughout the journey. Nevertheless, the view was spectacular. The road trip I mean.

One of the main destinations for the day.

Loch Ard Gorge

and the main act for the day (after that super long journey):

The Twelve Apostles!

you can either view from here or you can view it from above.

If you're willing to pay 100Aud for an 8 minutes ride that is.

Not me though.

this day tour cost about 69Aud, and you can book it with Extragreen Holidays. The link is in my previous post.

That's it, another 4 hour journey back to Melbourne City.

ps: It was Australia Day yesterday (26/1/2015), someone told me that there'll be fireworks. Didn't hear it from my room tho.
